What Authenticity Means to Emily Zorn RD
Calling BS on absurd diets and supplements, paying attention to how food makes you feel, and finding more alignment.
A few announcements before diving into this incredibly fun, insightful, educational conversation with Emily Zorn RD.
Last week, I announced my new packages!
I handcrafted each of these packages based on my own experiences, and the needs of the clients I've worked with. (ex: I have spent several sessions with my coach talking about the sentence "That sounds ambitious", and those three words were truly the inspiration for the Ready, Set, GOAL! package below.)
These packages range from 3 to 6 sessions in total. I like to think of them as coaching intensives, which are perfect for those who aren't sure if a 3-6 month coaching commitment is right for them at the moment.
Email me at alexajordancoaching@gmail.com to set up a free complimentary session, or to check my schedule and find a time that works for you!
For those of you who are new to Wild Cozy Free, I recently created downloadable guided journal full of prompts to help you cultivate more authenticity! I launched Authentic by Alexa a little over a month ago, and we’ve already sold over 50 copies. I am so deeply grateful and so excited to hear about what it’s bringing up for people as they reflect on what authenticity means to them. Learn more and download for just $13 below.
My birthday was yesterday, and I wrote some musings about how I’m feeling! Check it out below.
That’s it! On with the interview!
First of all, please join me in wishing Emily a happy birthday!!
I didn’t even know that today was her birthday when I proposed this date for publishing our conversation. At the time, she also didn’t know my birthday was yesterday. Too good to be a coincidence!
Emily Zorn is a registered dietitian and health coach. She helps people go from the “knowing” to the “doing” when it comes to making healthy nutrition a lifestyle. She is the co-host of RDs vs BS podcast where she and her friend Marie break down diets, supplements, and fads to determine what’s legit and what’s BS. You can learn more about her at her website or on instagram.
I can’t tell you how much I loved this conversation. I get to chat with Emily every week in our book club, and she also participated in several of my Authenticity Tuesday groups (both of which you’ll hear us discuss!) but this was the first time we got to dig deep, one on one.
I’m also mixing things up this week by sharing the audio instead of a written transcript! Click below to listen, and scroll down to learn about a few of the topics we chatted about, and read my new favorite quote ever.
We start by talking about Emily’s story, and her journey to becoming a coach and registered dietician.
I loved hearing about Emily’s time working in the sports realm, and what being a sports team dietician entails.
From there, we talked about how she encourages her clients to live authentically and make authentic choices when it comes to food.
Emily’s podcast, RDs vs. BS, feels like the definition of authenticity to me. I deeply appreciate the podcast’s mission, as someone who hates diet culture and is also perpetually in recovery from an eating disorder.
We talked about the quote below from my guided journal, along with one of our favorite coaching questions we learned during our certification program at the Life Purpose Institute; “is it true?”
Emily goes on to break down the importance of debunking popular diets and supplements with the truth. She also shares insights from her favorite podcast episode on Ozempic, and the most absurd topics that she and her co-host have called BS on. (The “Plant Paradox” and Hydroxycut.)
We ended by chatting about what authenticity means for Emily personally, who she’s comfortable being authentic around, and how she describes her authentic self these days.
The quote below is in response to a question from Authentic by Alexa —
What are your favorite things? Your essentials? The accessories that would come in the box if they named a doll after you?
My authenticity doll is wearing a mask and a snorkel, holding a Le Croiseax pot, and inside the pot, there are a bunch of books.
How good is that?! I need that doll!
(My accessories include a huge oat milk chai latte, a candle, a super soft sweater, a great memoir, a crystal or two, the VHS of Annie, the musical, and a great playlist.)
I’ll leave you with a song we discussed during our conversation, which also happens to be a favorite of Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach’s.
You’ll also quickly realize that we recorded this before the Superbowl - I did indeed send Emily a condolence email after the Chiefs beat the 49ers!
Learn more about Emily at her website and stay tuned for the next authenticity interview - the last of February. Where did the month go?!
