Have you checked out New Yorker Goes West? I’m writing all about my new chapter in California, as a lifelong New Yorker.
This is not your average travel blog. This is a raw, unflinching, intimate look into what it’s like to leave the life you’ve always known behind and begin a new one, miles away.
Will I share great recommendations for fish tacos? Of course.
Will I tell you about my favorite comfort shows? Absolutely.
Will it all be sunshine and palm trees and smiles and Instagrammable selfies? Nope.
But yeah, there is quite a bit of sunshine. And palm trees. I’m a fan.
While most posts are for paid subscribers, I did share my original itinerary for my first trip here with all (free and paid) subscribers - and my friend said I sound like a travel agent, which was an *honor* coming from an award-winning destination writer!
Kristi wrote the most beautiful post about me and another fellow writer, a few weeks ago, which came as a complete surprise! I’m still very much on Cloud 9. Linked below.
Speaking of Kristi…
Kristi Keller is an award-winning destination writer, builder of highly engaged communities, master of the obvious, and guardian of all the sweatpants. She can either be found at the dog park or online helping Substackers up their game.
Kristi is the author of not one, or two, but THREE substack publications! (All are linked below). She’s also one of the most supportive and generous people I’ve ever met.
As you know, if you’ve listened to past What Authenticity Means to Me conversations lately, I like including takeaways, quotes, and links from these conversations. But for some reason or other, I kind of just want to let you dive into this one. And I don’t want to overexplain that instinct, I just want to follow it.
I will include one quote that I’ve been thinking about a lot, as a fellow traveler who fell in love with a place after one visit.
I’ll never know if it was Jamaica that I fell in love with, or just not being here. If I had won a trip to Italy, would it have been the same? I’ll never know.
If Kristi hadn’t won that prize trip to Jamaica, who knows where life might have taken her? To Italy? Asia? Somewhere else entirely?
If I hadn’t taken a solo birthday trip to San Diego for Idina Menzel’s latest musical, would I have picked up my life and moved somewhere else? Would I still be in New York?
We’ll never know. All I know is that we never know where life will take us, and where we will take ourselves.
And, that travel can be pretty life-changing.
This one is for adventurers, dreamers, dog lovers, travel enthusiasts, and curious hearts.
And last thing — we’ll be chatting all about Authenticity and TRAVEL, at the next authenticity office hours on Tuesday 10/15 at 5:00PM PST! Prompts to come.
Okay, that’s all. Let’s dive in. No passport required 😉
